Facilities at Hexham Tennis Club
Hexham Tennis Club has 6 artificial grass, all-weather courts.
3 of the all weather courts are floodlit enabling play up to 10pm every day. Lighting is currently chargeable at £2 per half hour of play. Tokens are available from nominated members (to be found in club information on joining).
The courts are not pre-bookable but there is generally good availability.
After the clocks go forward in Spring we have a variety of organised sessions allocated for different play. Fun, social tennis is played on Tuesday evenings starting at 6pm and Saturday afternoons starting at 1.30pm (also played through the rest of the year starting at 2pm).
Men’s team practice is Monday evenings and Ladies team practice is Thursday evenings, both starting at 6pm from April through to September. Juniors have play organised by coaches and are welcome to play at all other times too. This year we are trialling a junior club which will run on Wednesday evenings.
Overlooking the courts is our own Pavilion which was transformed inside with a modern refurbishment during 2013, including a modern kitchen and sitting area. Thanks are due to Sport England for their support through their Olympic Legacy Inspired Facilities Grant.
Within the same grounds we have use of the Tynedale Cricket Club facilities which include: a bar, Satellite TV, showers, pool, darts, catering and a function room. This is also available to hire for private functions. Please contact Brook on 01434 602381.
Club Information
We value your membership greatly. The subscriptions raised help us to maintain and develop the courts and club for the benefit of all members.
- Subscriptions cover a year from April 1st.
- If wishing to join after 1st September please contact the Membership Secretary for the appropriate rate of membership for the remainder of the club year up to 31st March.
- By joining the club all members, parents, carers/coaches are expected to abide by our code of conduct.
- On receipt of your membership fee you will receive an annual members trainer tag. All members are asked to wear their current membership tag on their trainers to prove membership.
- If a member would like to play occasionally with a non-member, then a visitor’s fee of £5 per adult or £2 per Junior per session is payable (please see inside tennis pavilion for details).
- A visitor may be invited a maximum of 5 times in any one year (April – March).
Court availability and priority of use
At Hexham Tennis Club, we strive to have courts available for play for all members at all times. We are one of the few clubs in Northumberland to have more than 4 courts, so fortunately this is nearly always possible. However during the course of the week, some courts will be required for matches, coaching, match practice and the club social play sessions. However these sessions rarely take up all courts. At the height of the match season and only very occasionally you may have to wait for a court or be prepared to make up a doubles four instead of singles play.
The courts and pavilion are usually kept locked when not in use. When joining the Club you will be given details on how to access the courts and facilities.
Tennis balls
A supply of ex-match balls is available for use by members. However, it is advisable to bring some balls, just in case.
Club sessions
Club social mixed tennis: Tuesday from 5.30pm and Saturday from 1.30pm for members of all standards except complete beginners.
Ladies morning: Friday from 9.45ish. Primarily ladies doubles social tennis. All standards from beginners upwards.
Team tennis
If you are keen to participate in team tennis (doubles), please come along on the designated match practice nights or give the Men’s or Ladies’ captain a ring.
Floodlights and tokens
The floodlights can be used up to 10pm every night. Tokens for the floodlights which cost £2 for 30 minutes play per court must be purchased in advance of play as they are not available to purchase on site.
Coaching at Hexham Tennis Club
Hexham’s Head Coach is Tom Geary (LTA Level 3 qualified coach). Tom coaches players of all ages and abilities, both individually and in groups. For all coaching enquiries contact Tom.
